First presented in London, July 2008, the 2009 Ford Focus RS prototype is the product of WRC Europe, rally car team’s work and is a strong sport compact designed to bring Ford back into the hyper-hatch market along the rival Subaru.
With a turbocharged, 4 cylinder Duratec 2.5, Focus ST based engine designed to produce more than 277 horsepower and over 400 Nm torque the new Focus RS will achieve a very good power/weight ratio, also is expected to be the ultimate road-going Focus, a stable, reliable responsive, durable also agile sports car.
Ford’s engineering team introduced many chassis innovations, advanced technological front wheel drive system and limited slip differential in their attempt to create a car with optimal driving dynamic, on road performance in order to satisfy the exigencies of sports cars enthusiasts and meet their high standards.
With a fresh sporty design which combines subtle details like the lowered, by some called “mean” appearance, the vibrant green exterior, the front fog lamps’ housings, the lower grille placed in a trapezoid, the powerful stance and the subtle revisions, the chromed tail-pipes at bought sides of the black ventury, all create a strong impression and lay down the promise of a thrilling drive. Although the car hasn’t been released to the market and the prototype is still in development drive tests show that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour in six seconds.
The sport theme continues on the inside as well, 2009 Ford Focus RS, has a high performance designed interior with sport seats specially created for optimal support, brushed aluminium highlights, leather accents, everything perfectly matching the exterior.
The centre console combines carbon-look trim; metallic highlights and stylish glossy finishing that emphasize the sport accents.
For the 2009 Ford Focus RS the engineering team combined the agile, responsive, laser blade precision of all RS in its class with upgraded features that provide excellent steering response and feedback precision. The brakes were revised; the prototype has ventilated 336 mm front discs and 300 mm rear discs, and length increased anti roll bar, 10 inch wheels with low profile Continental tires.
The Electronic Stability Program system was specially designed to provide refined yet natural handling of the car but adrenalin thirsty drivers can de-activate the ESP and experience the sporty driving style thrills. This new model promises to rise up to the great heritage of Focus and RS brands to carry on the reliability, durability and dynamism tradition and be next year’s WRC champion.
