Strut bars effect

Posted under Tuning Articles

One of the most common modifications made in a tuned car is the optional strut bar. Strut bars are building to use for the association of the shock absorbers and forming with those a strong piece.

The purpose of the strut bars is to reduce the flexibility of the shock absorbers at their corners. When you make a turn the suspension system moves in the normal way and that result in a flexible part of the car and also loosing some traction. A strut bar is made to decrease the flexibility of the car by moving the forces that are on a single shock absorber and distributes it to the two absorbers in an equal way. This thing will maintain the wheels on the position. While maintaining a good positions of the wheel this will also maintain the tires to be on the desired track, and helps the traction when you will take a curve.

A rear strut bar is made to work like a front strut bar and force the two towers in the rear to work just like one, and also increasing the rigidity of the chassis. Strut rear bars are decreasing the slide effect because there is no flexibility in the chassis and improve the stability on the while breaking in curves.

Strut bars are a necessity for any improvement of the width tires combined whit perfect wheels. The additional upgrades to the suspension systems like sport spring, lower profiles of tires, gives to the chassis a bigger force and those results in a more flexible chassis. The strut bars not only improve the frame of the car and improve the flexibility of the chassis but also make steering faster.

In common ways the strut bar are installed in a few minutes and they look grate and they are shiny. But the look doesn’t have anything in common whit the performance. Do reduce the flexibility between the stabilizers we must choose a tuning kit as harder as possible. Actually, the real strut bars doesn’t have any welding and look just like an “X” shape, and if you have time and money go and buy yourself a more rigid strut bar for your car.

The sway bars affects the control of the car and the stability that the driver have in the lower part of the suspension system. The sway bars are joining between them the lower components of the suspension front and rear and affect the possibility that the car slides out of the road.

The sway bar will keep the car on the road in dangerous curves and will not let the suspension system to loose control of the car. They are distributing the energy that affect one side of the car in curve and take that energy and divides it on the both suspension system on the car and this way it will bring the entire car to a better stability and does not allow the car to slide. Of course that some flexibility will appear, but not as much as the first time when we didn’t have a sway bar.

The strut bars guaranty a better cornering especially at very high speeds and works very good together whit the sway bars. How ever, they have a side effect in off road situation, and you can remain suspended by a wheel if you hit a bigger hole in the off road mode.
